Keep Your Smile Shining with Preventive Dentistry
Prevention is a huge part of our practice because our patients have a much better experience when we’re able to stop dental problems preemptively rather than have to fix them later. Our team’s main goal is to give you a healthy, beautiful smile and help you keep it that way, and these treatments are exactly how we do it.
Dental Checkups & Dental Cleanings
These treatments are the cornerstone of our practice, and they are two of the best tools we have to help our patients have sustained oral health year after year.
Dental cleanings are used to break up plaque and bacteria buildup on your teeth and gums that can lead to tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease. Even if you brush your teeth every day, these cleanings are essential because they can reach areas in your mouth that you simply can’t!
For your checkup, I will examine your mouth for a wide variety of dental problems and can implement treatments to quickly eliminate them. By coming to see us regularly, we'll be able to maintain your smile with conservative care and save you from having to get more involved restorative procedures in the future.
Nightguards for Teeth Grinding and Clenching
Bruxism (teeth grinding) and clenching are conditions that mostly occur subconsciously while you sleep. It is estimated that about 10% of the population clench or grind their teeth. Over time, this can severely damage the teeth, gums and jaw bone. Some complications from grinding and clenching are teeth fracturing, gum recession with root sensitivity, jaw pain that can radiate to the head and neck, bone loss and even eventual tooth loss. If you suffer from bruxism or clenching, we can provide you with a simple and easy to use solution called a nightguard. It is a small, custom-made appliance that fits over your teeth that provides a protective barrier between the teeth. You would only need to wear it to bed each night. Because each nightguard is made individually, it will fit comfortably over the teeth and allow you to sleep normally.
Oral Cancer Screening
This year alone, nearly 50,000 people will be diagnosed with oral cancer, and many will not survive the next 5 years because the disease was caught too late to be successfully treated. To prevent this from happening to you or a loved one, I will always perform an oral cancer screening as part of your regular checkup.
I will examine your lips, gums, tongue, cheeks, throat, and neck for any signs of the disease. To keep your smile looking and feeling great this year and the next, contact us today for an appointment.
