One of the best things about straightening your teeth with clear aligners<\/a> is that you can remove them easily for meals, beverages, and oral hygiene. But in order for them to do their job, they need to fit securely. Unfortunately, however, this sometimes causes difficulty when it comes time to remove them. But don\u2019t despair. If you\u2019re struggling to take off your trays, here are a few handy tips and tricks to make the job easier!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Take a Pause<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes when your aligners get cold, they will stiffen up a bit. If you\u2019ve just had a cold glass of water, your aligner may be harder than usual to remove. Thus, give your mouth a second to warm back up so your trays can soften. Once they\u2019re a bit more pliable, they should be much easier to take off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pull from the Back<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s much easier to remove your aligners from the back of your arch than it is from the front. Simply position your fingertip on the inside of your back molar and gently pull your aligner away from the teeth, one side at a time, advancing forward with each section until you reach the front and your tray comes out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Long and Short of It<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Although having long fingernails may make your hands look great, it can sometimes be impractical with clear aligners. Thus, consider keeping your manicure short while undergoing treatment so you\u2019ll have a better way to grip your trays and will be less likely to injure your gums (and your nails!) when removing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Use Removal Tools<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are many \u2018hacks\u2019 that can help you get a better grip on your clear aligners, such as using a paper towel, rubber gloves, or even a rubber jar opener for traction. You can also purchase a removal tool, which is specifically designed to help take your trays out. If you do, be sure to ask your dentist to show you how to properly use it so you don\u2019t hurt your teeth or gums in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take a Deep Breath\u2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Finally, if you\u2019re struggling to remove your aligners, try not to panic. Give yourself a few minutes to remove them each time so you don\u2019t feel rushed, and if you are struggling, do your best to remain calm. They will come out eventually, but when you attempt to take them out when you\u2019re feeling stressed or anxious it can increase your risk of damaging your trays and injuring your mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember, your clear aligners must fit snugly to work effectively, but if you\u2019re struggling to remove them, try these helpful tips. While it may be a bit frustrating at first, eventually you\u2019ll get the hang of it and learn the easiest methods for your individual smile.
