Although this is good news (it means your trays are working!), it\u2019s helpful to know how to alleviate symptoms like these. 1. Switch to Each New Set at Night<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Patients often don\u2019t put much thought into when they transition to each new set of aligners. However, if you make the switch first thing in the morning or right after lunch, you might be tempted to take them off when discomfort arises. If that sounds all too familiar, consider doing so at night! That way, you sleep while your teeth are adjusting the most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Use a Cold Compress<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Using a cold compress will provide a numbing sensation while also reducing swelling and inflammation. Curious how to go about it? Well, you have a few options. The first is wrapping an icepack in a clean towel and gently pressing it against your cheek for 10-15 minutes at a time. You can also sip on cool water throughout the day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Stick to Soft Foods<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In short, eating raw almonds, tortilla chips, and other crunchy foods will only exacerbate the symptoms you\u2019re experiencing. So, opt for soft foods, like cottage cheese, plain yogurt, oatmeal, and bananas. Not only will this help prevent soreness and discomfort, but it will also reduce the risk of your attachments breaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Take OTC Pain Medication<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019ve tried everything, but nothing seems to be working, take OTC pain medication. Just make sure you follow the directions and never take more than the recommended amount. In about 30 minutes, you should start to feel your symptoms subside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
