Pediatric Dentistry in West Palm Beach
Children are not “Small Adults”
Whether your child is new to the dental experience or has had previous appointment, I like to take the time to introduce myself and explain to the child what we are doing and show them all the “special things” we are going to use. It is critically important to make children feel comfortable in the dental office, and that’s why this time spent explaining is time well spent.
Here are some of the services we provide for our pediatric dentistry patients:
Dental sealants are a simple procedure in which a tooth-colored filling material is painted onto the surface of the tooth. This effectively “seals” the deep grooves in the tooth, acting as a barrier from plaque and acids. Sealants take only a few minutes to apply, and there is no need to numb the tooth at all.
Also called a “baby root-canal”, a pulpotomy is performed when tooth decay has reached the nerve of the baby tooth. The nerve chamber is cleaned out and sealed before a final restoration is placed. This procedure is warranted when the tooth affected is not going to fall out for a while and space maintenance for the permanent tooth is needed.
Bonding is a cosmetic procedure that uses tooth colored material to smooth, reshape, or resurface teeth. It provides a great esthetic result. Here are some situations where bonding may be beneficial to your teeth:
- Chipped teeth
- Decayed teeth
- Broken teeth
- Stained teeth
- Spaced teeth (gaps between the teeth )
Tooth colored fillings are designed to match the color of your teeth. I do not use mercury-silver amalgam fillings because I feel that today’s composite fillings are excellent materials for dental restorations. For example, composite restorations (white fillings) are highly esthetic, very durable, often require less drilling, and thus help to preserve more tooth structure.
